I was born in Philadelphia, PA. the oldest of seven children, 3-boys and 4-girls. At the early age of five I began to show interest in music.. At age 9, I was given a guitar by an older cousin who taught me how to play an old country honky tonk riff. Thus the torch was lit, and the creative Juices began to flow. I was Introduced to church at an early age and loved to sing even though some thought that I should stick to playing instruments instead.
At age 11, I learned to play many songs by ear, which landed me in my first neighborhood band. I attended Stoddard Fleisher Junior High School where I also learned to play the clarinet and alto saxophone. Not knowing how to read sheet music, I would learn by ear and memorize all the songs. Often times I would play the piano during school assembly. As time went on I joined several other bands that traveled and played on the local circuit. I've been a member of several groups such as, The Persuasions, The North Wall Band, The Temporarily Unknown Band, Sure Fire, The Break Of Dawn, Positive Vibes, The Back In Action Band, and The Friends Group, just to name a few.
Growing up in the inner city, trouble was always at arms length. While dealing with the struggles, trials and tribulations of life, I began to make bad decisions and started hanging out with the wrong crowds. At this point in my life I became caught up and found myself entangled in the clutches of the enemy.
April of 1990 was an important turning point in my life. I reached out and called on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ who answered and delivered me from the gates of hell. Returning to my church roots, I began again, to rebuild my foundation and faith in God. I joined the Hebron Tabernacle Church, where I filled in and played the piano behind the Pastors wife during praise and worship services. As I began to be strengthened and grow in grace more and more as I acknowledged the gift Giver. As the years went by blessed and honored to have been the praise and worship leader for several churches, realizing that the gift of music is not just for self but to minister to others as well.
