Evangelist Sylvia is the eldest daughter of the now deceased Pastor James Addison, Sr. and "Mama" Mayola McDonald-Addison. She began singing with the family group, The Addison Singers, at the age of five. She is an anointed woman of God that loves preaching and singing. She is also a gifted vocal arranger and songwriter.
She was heavily influenced by her mother's love for quartet groups such as the Dixie Hummingbirds, Sensational Nightingales, Mighty Clouds of Joy, The Blind Boys, The Pilgrim Jubilees, Swan Silver Tones, and other black male quartet groups. Mahalia Jackson, Mavis of the Staple Singers, Dorothy Love Coats, Shirley Caesar, and Loretta Lyn and Charley Pride were her father's favorites. She would sneak and listen to Etta James and Big Mama Thorton. She learned to dive into those husky notes and rise with thunder by imitating them, Mahalia Jackson and Mavis Staples.
In her music you will hear not only the influences of her heritage and these legends, but you will also hear the pain and victory over her past. She infuses her music with toe tapping and hand clapping spiritual vibrations infused with smooth gospel rifts and a little bit of soul and blues.
She is an Associate Minister at her home church Greater Calvary Bible Church under the pastoral leadership of Archbishop Dr. Sterling Lands, II. Evangelist Addison understands firsthand the stronghold of sexual abuse, spousal abuse, mental abuse and the struggles of being a single parent. She is a living testimony that victory over these strongholds can only be achieved through Jesus Christ and is a true believer that the anointing of God breaks every yoke. Her songs and messages directs you to a place of liberation found only through the power of the love of God and His love demonstrated by Jesus Christ, God in the flesh on the cross of Calvary.
Evangelist Addison also, understands first hand the heartbreak and struggle that comes from losing a love one to heart disease. This unchecked silent killer took the life of her mother without warning. Evangelist Addison's watched and listened helplessly as the doctors worked to save her mother's life to no avail.
Evangelist Addison learned in recent years that she to had suffered a heart attack unknowingly, but praise be to God, she continues to receive excellent reports from her regular scheduled stress tests.
Her dear friend suffered a stroke that impacted her cognitive thinking and speach. But through her faith and the encouragement of the children of God for her to read during Bible Study Class she is well on her way to full recovery.
God can do anything but fail. All we have to do is trust him!
